No one likes a liar, especially when dealing with them personally. Lying breaks a trust and bond that you may have built with another. The trust can also be broken before it was even started. Being dishonest makes people not even want to deal with you, causing you to appear unattractive and less popular. No matter how small or big the lie is, it’s not a good look.
