#4 Keep food storage locations off-limits

Unfortunately, dogs don’t know the difference between a food item that will simply taste good and one that can kill them. Keeping your food storage areas inaccessible to your dog is advisable, since there are many potential dangers lurking on the shelves. Nutmeg, for example, a spice that we might use in an apple pie or to sprinkle on some eggnog, is toxic to dogs. Other common items that are toxic for canines include baking soda, baking powder and other spices commonly found in kitchens.
