Archeologists have benefited greatly by airborne infrared imaging technology used to find suitable sites for excavation. Because that normally involves the use of helicopters or orbiting satellites, it can be quite an expensive undertaking. Two forward-thinking scientists in New Mexico decided on another approach and outfitted drones with thermal-imaging cameras. They were then used to successfully locate a 1,000-year-old Pueblo community site that would probably have taken 10 years to find using more traditional methods.
