7. Tank Man
Some students protested for freedom of the press, freedom of the speech, and restoration of workers control over industry in 1989 at the Tiananmen Square. That protest recorded over a million people but failed because the Chinese government retaliated, which led to the Tiananmen Square Massacre.
Sophisticated rifles and tanks were used by the Chinese military to overpower the Tiananmen Square protesters, killing and injuring students. The next morning, an unknown man pulled a stunt by preventing these tanks from going through. Though the tanks attempted to maintain a strategic distance from him, he just continued to sit before them. Photos of this strange stunt became so famous, despite the fact that nobody knows his true identity or what happened to him.
