His starring role in this film about a DJ who broadcast on the Armed Forces Radio Network during the Vietnam war turned the film’s title into a sort of catch phrase that was used and re-used by people around the world. For most every other actor, this would be hard to believe, but for Williams, not so much: Most if the “on-air” dialog during the film was improvised by Williams.
