Punishment is a difficult concept for cats, in fact, they may not understand it at all. A much better approach is positive reinforcement that involves praise and attention with the goal of making the cat feel good. Praising good behavior rather than trying to discipline a cat that has misbehaved is the approach more likely to succeed.
